Colgate University was on lockdown Monday night over reports of an armed person on campus, according to the college's Twitter page.
"There is an armed person at the Coop," the college tweeted at 8:20 p.m. "Find a safe space and remain indoors. If you are off-campus, stay away."
The Coop is a dining area at the private, liberal arts college.
The Hamilton Police Department said they were responding to reports of an armed person and that no shots had been fired.
Colgate University is in Hamilton, New York, about forty miles southeast of Syracuse.
