PATH Service Suspended on 2 Lines, Subways Also Messy

An equipment problem forced authorities to suspend PATH service on two lines Tuesday morning, snarling the commute for thousands as the morning rush got underway.

Authorities said service on the Journal Square-33rd Street and Hoboken-33rd Street lines was shut down around 7:30 a.m. Passengers were advised to take the World Trade Center train and transfer to city subways uptown.

NJ Transit was cross-honoring PATH tickets as well.

The nature of the equipment problem wasn't clear, and there was no estimated timetable for service restoration.

Subways had problems of their own Tuesday. Service on the No. 1 train was suspended between 14th Street and South Ferry because of switch problems at Chambers Street. The MTA implemented some changes on the Nos. 2 and 3 lines as well, and delays were expected on all three lines.

Delays were also reported on northbound E and F trains because of a rail condition at Jackson Heights-Roosevelt Avenue.
