Christmas Eve promises to bring rain and a wintery mix of slushy snow at night and continuing through Monday morning, Storm Team 4 says.
The Department of Sanitation said it has issued a snow alert for the city starting at 10 p.m. Sunday.
The tri-state waded through a rainy Saturday, with parts of southern Connecticut and southeastern New York seeing freezing rain and icy road conditions.
It will be dry and cloudy Sunday before the wintery mix moves in around midnight. Storm Team 4 says the fast-moving will bring mostly rain to the coast and mostly snow inland.
Areas in the Hudson Valley and northern New Jersey could get up to 4 inches of snow, but will probably see about 2 inches of wet snow, while the city and inner suburbs will likely get a slushy accumulation of 1 inch or less, according to Storm Team 4.
Christmas Day is blustery and cold, and temperatures only drop from there. Temperatures are forecast to stay below freezing the entire work week and through next weekend, with the coldest days being Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
New Year’s Eve and New Year’s Day will be dry, but highs won’t make it out of the 20s. Storm Team 4 says.
