Cuffed Prisoner With 40 Priors Caught After Hospital Escape

A 27-year-old prisoner with 40 prior arrests who managed to escape police custody at a Bronx hospital early Friday has been captured after a 12-hour manhunt, police said.

The suspect, Kevin Taylor, fled St. Barnabas Hospital on Third Avenue shortly before 7 a.m. with one handcuff on. He had been in custody on weapons, narcotics and resisting arrest-related charges.

By around 8:45 p.m., he was apprehended at a home in the Bronx, police said. He was being held at the 48th Precinct stationhouse, with charges pending.

The circumstances of the initial arrest, which happened Wednesday, weren't immediately clear, nor was it known why Taylor was at the hospital. It also wasn't clear how he escaped the hospital; witnesses said security chased him but couldn't catch up.

Police say he has 40 prior arrests, including busts for bail jumping, aggravated harassment, burglary, robbery, attempted escape and criminal mischief. Eighteen cases are sealed.

Cops canvassed the area for Taylor for hours Friday.
