Authorities are investigating the death of a 56-year-old woman whose body was found wrapped in a blanket in a Brooklyn apartment Wednesday.
Police were trying to conduct a wellness check in the third-floor home on 18th Street near Prospect Park South mid-afternoon, but officials say the 57-year-old man who met them at the door would not let them inside.
That man, later identified as Corey Lawrence, was taken into custody; it was his home that police were called to for the wellness check. Cops made their way inside and found the body of a woman wrapped in a blanket on his bedroom floor.
The dead woman has not been identified, but authorities say she and Lawrence were in a relationship; an autopsy will be conducted to determine how she died.
Lawrence is charged with assault on a police officer, obstruction and resisting arrest for allegedly refusing to let the officers inside; he is not charged in the woman's death at this time.
