12-Year-Old Boy Hit by Car in Front of NYC School: Police

A 12-year-old boy was in serious condition after getting hit by a Jeep in front of a Queens middle school, police and witnesses said.

The 12-year-old was hit by the vehicle near I.S. 145 Joseph Pulitzer, near 79th Street and 34th Avenue in Jackson Heights, around 2:20 p.m. Thursday, the NYPD said.

Witnesses told News 4 the boy was either crossing the avenue or darting out in front of double-parked school buses when a white Jeep hit him.

"I heard kids screaming and I looked out and I could see the head of a little boy underneath the white Jeep. The rest of him was completely under the Jeep," one witness told News 4.

Emergency responders lifted the car off the boy, she added.

The boy was taken to Elmhurst Hospital in serious condition, but was expected to survive, police said. It wasn't immediately clear what injuries he sustained.

The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating, law enforcement sources say.
