NYC Man Sitting in Car Shot Dead in Broad Daylight: Police

A gunman shot and killed another man as he was sitting in his car in Manhattan in broad daylight, police said.

Police responding to a 911 call just before 2 p.m. on Wednesday found Franklin Bello, 48, inside a grey Toyota Corolla parked at the corner of West 185th Street and St. Nicholas Avenue in Washington Heights, the NYPD said.

The Washington Heights resident had several gunshot wounds to his torso, police said. He was taken to Columbia Presbyterian Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

A law enforcement source close to the investigation said Bello was shot four or five times. Video from the scene shows Bello's Toyota surrounded by evidence markers.

The suspect ran south to 180th Street after the shooting, the source said.

No one had been arrested in connection with Bello's death as of Wednesday evening. A black hat was left behind at the scene, believed to be the killers.

A motive behind the shooting is not yet clear. An investigation is ongoing.
