2 Firefighters Injured in Long Island House Fire: Officials

A fire destroyed a house in Central Islip early Saturday and two firefighters were hurt battling the blaze, officials said.

Two firefighters suffered burns, the fire department said. One was taken by helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital, the other was transported by ambulance, officials said. Both were expected to survive their injuries.

The homeowner suffered minor respiratory problems, firefighters said. No one else was injured.

Seven people were displaced from the home on Bushwick Avenue.

Firefighters are investigating the cause of the blaze but said at this point it appears to be non-criminal.
