A bomb threat emailed to a New Jersey business owner sparked an evacuation of homes and businesses in the neighborhood Tuesday as police and firefighters investigated.
Someone emailed the Pompton Lakes business owner to say the building was wired with explosive devices and that the blast would destroy the building and the whole one-block area surrounding it, according to police.
The email author demanded a monetary ransom by May 31, and included instructions to deliver the money.
Firefighters and EMS were deployed to the scene as police evacuated the area and investigated. The Passaic County Sheriff's Department bomb squad checked out the building and found no explosive devices, police said.
Residents and workers were allowed back into their homes and businesses.
Police say they're continuing to investigate and are looking for the person responsible for the threat. They wouldn't say how much the ransom was.
