Part of the M subway line shut down on Saturday and will remain closed for two months while the MTA makes critical repairs.
Free shuttle buses are available to commuters who rely on the closed stations.
The shutdown affects riders in Queens and Brooklyn between the Metropolitan Avenue stop in Middle Village and the Myrtle Avenue stop in Bushwick.
The shutdown will affect thousands of riders commuting to and from Manhattan.
The MTA will be repairing the 310-foot Myrtle Viaduct and replace the Fresh Ponds Bridge, which links the Fresh Pond Road station and the Metropolitan Avenue terminal.
The second phase of the project begins in September but will only close two stations between Myrtle-Wyckoff Avenues and Myrtle Avenue/Broadway. A free shuttle bus will also be available.
The work is planned to be done before the L train line is shut down for 18 months for repairs. The Canarsie Tube under the East River is set to be shut down in April 2019 so that repairs could be made to the Sandy-flooded tunnel and to add storm resiliency measures.
The MTA said in March that the work could be shortened to 15 months.
