Raging Fire Threatens Apartment Building in Jersey City

Dozens of firefighters are trying to get a fire under control in Jersey City.

The fire broke out around 5 p.m. Friday at a commercial garage on JFK Boulevard and Secaucus Road.

Thick black smoke was seen rising from the garage as members of the Jersey City Fire Dept. descended on the area. Tower ladders have surrounded the building.

No injuries have been reported.

A number of buildings, including a deli, are connected to the garage, and smoke was coming up through the eaves of nearby buildings.

There's concern about a five-story apartment building to the east of the garage, although residents haven't been evacuated as of 6 p.m.

A number of streets are closed in the area, including JFK Boulevard, Sixth and Hague streets, and Secaucus Road between JFK and Summit avenues.
