Cab Driver and Father of 3 Girls Shot for $23 in the Bronx

A livery cab driver and father of three shot was multiple times in the Bronx early Saturday by a passenger who stole $23 from him, police said.

The New York State Fderation of Taxi Drivers, a union, identified the victim as 26-year-old Jeffrey Cisnero Camacho, a father of three little daughters.

He was fighting for his life Saturday night as police and fellow cab drivers pleaded with the public for help finding the shooter.

Camacho was hailed down by a man at Boston Road and Fish Avenue and drove him to Morrison Avenue, less than ten blocks away, where he was robbed and shot three times with a 9 mm automatic weapon, the union said.

The gunman took off and the injured Camacho was able to flag down a police officer down the street and get an ambulance. He was hospitalized with two gunshot wounds to his abs and one to his leg, according to the union.

"When's someone's life is worth $23, we've got a lot to be concerned about," said Fernando Mateo, a spokesman for the New York State Fderation of Taxi Drivers.

Taxi officials said Camacho didn't have a camera in his Toyota Prius and that he shouldn't have picked up a man trying to flag him down.

"He lives near here. So he was probably on his way home," Mateo said. "He saw the street hail. Picked it up, thought he could make probably an extra $10, $15. And it could have cost him his life."

The taxi union is offering a $1,000 reward for information on the shooter.
