NYPD Look for Suspect Seen on Video Punching Woman in Face
Police are looking for a man seen on video walking up to a woman in Brooklyn and bashing her in the face.
The 71-year-old woman was walking along New York Avenue in Prospect-Lefferts Gardens around 5:30 p.m. on September 19 when the suspect is seen on video walking in the opposite direction on the sidewalk. Seemingly out of nowhere, he turns to her and punches the woman in the face, police said.
The brazen daytime attack transpired just a few blocks away from an NYPD stationhouse.
The victim was knocked to the ground and left unconscious, cops said, as the man kept on walking calmly away. The woman was hospitalized in serious but stable condition with a broken jaw and cuts to her mouth that required stitches.
The woman eventually got up and walked into a store, and did not appear to even remember she had been hit or where she was, just telling the shop owner she had fallen somewhere nearby.
No arrests have been made and an investigation is ongoing. Police are looking for the man seen in the video wearing a gray sweatshirt and sweatpants. Anyone with information regarding the suspect or the attack are encouraged to contact police at the NYPD's Crime Stoppers Hotline at 1-800-577-TIPS (8477) or online at nypdcrimestoppers.com

Human Skull and Bones Found at Arboretum in Philly
An investigation is underway after human remains were found at an arboretum in Philadelphia’s Germantown neighborhood.
On Monday at 8:47 a.m., a groundskeeper at the Awbury Arboretum on Awbury Road discovered a human skull and bones in a sack partially buried in the back of the historic Francis Cope House, where a tent hosts weddings and other events.
“There’s children in the park and then there’s programs going on at the Cope House,” Carl Boyd, who lives near the arboretum, told NBC10.
After spending hours digging up evidence, crime scene investigators transported the remains to the medical examiner’s office to determine who the person was and a cause of death. Investigators told NBC10 the body is so badly decomposed that it's unclear at this point if the victim is a man or woman.
“Being that we don’t have any type of security that people feel they can get away with things, they would probably come to an area where they figure it would be concealed,” Boyd said.
Police continue to investigate. If you have any information on the incident, please call Philadelphia Police.

Pompeo Was on Trump-Ukraine Call at Center of Impeachment Inquiry
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo was on the July phone call where President Donald Trump asked his Ukrainian counterpart to investigate Joe Biden and his son, a senior State Department official told NBC News.
The July 25 phone call between Trump and Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelenskiy and a related whistleblower complaint are now at the center of House Democrats' impeachment inquiry.
Pompeo's involvement in the call — during which Trump told Zelenskiy that Biden's conduct sounded "horrible" to him — was first reported by the Wall Street Journal. It's not unusual for the nation's top diplomat to be on a president's call with a foreign leader, but Pompeo has not acknowledged his involvement.
Pompeo dodged questions about the phone call and the complaint during an interview with ABC's "This Week" on Sept. 22, days before the White House released a summary of the call which showed Trump asking about the Bidens' dealings in Ukraine.

NJ U.S. Attorney, State AG Hush on North Bergen Voter Fraud
After NBC New York's I-Team reported on questions of voter fraud in North Bergen, U.S. Attorney Craig Carpenito declined to say if his office is investigating the allegation — as well as previous questions of corruption at North Bergen's Town Hall, Housing Authority and Board of Education.
“We are not here to talk about the North Bergen matters,” Carpenito said late last week at an unrelated news conference. “We’re obviously are aware of the news articles that have been written but we don’t comment on whether or not we have any open investigations or what the progress of those investigations are.”
A spokesman for New Jersey’s Attorney General Gurbir Grewal also had no comment. However, the former head of the New Jersey FBI office says the voter fraud allegations are serious.
“The problem here is that these individuals are public servants,” Tim Gallagher said. “Their job is to educate our students and protect our streets. And they are being used to wield power and sway elections and that is just wrong.”
The I-Team obtained a list of North Bergen Board of Education workers; at least 649 were registered voters. Records for each could not be checked, so the I-Team analyzed 61 staffers who listed an out-of-town address. Out of 61 with out of out-of-town listings, we found nearly a dozen questionable cases where it appears those actually workers in North Bergen.
One education worker who asked not to be identified said the problem is well-known in North Bergen and is due to pressure from the town’s Democratic machine.
“Everyone kind of gets intimidated to play the political game,” the anonymous worker said.
For example, records show Board of Education employee George Haviland voted in North Bergen, which is Hudson County. But records show Gaviland owns a home in Bergen County where his son even posted in social media having gone to school there.
We also checked numerous other town workers and found another questionable case involving North Bergen Detective Mark Francin. He has been seen working security for Mayor Nicholas Sacco, who also is a state senator. Records show the officer voted using a past family address in North Bergen, even though records show he owns a home in the town of Saddle Brook in Bergen County.
Another possible case involves Housing Authority employee Drew Micucci. He listed a North Bergen address on his Hudson County voter registration. The building is owned by the family of his boss, the director of the North Bergen Housing Authority. Tenants at the building told the I-team Micucci never lived there, while multiple sources and one relative said Micucci actually lived 18 miles away in the Bergen County township of Washington.
A spokesman for the mayor and town workers say that in each case there was no wrong-doing. The spokesman said that either the individual was living part-time at a relative’s home in North Bergen or had actually lived full time in North Bergen, adding that the workers actions were “appropriate." (link to other story here)
The former New Jersey FBI director says if anyone used an address and voted improperly in North Bergen, they could also be opening themselves up to other potential charges, like tax or insurance fraud.
“What’s your primary residence? When your bank asks what’s your primary residence and you write down X and you don’t live there, that could be potential bank fraud,” Gallagher said.
Considering the relatively limited records the I-Team was able to check, there were nearly two dozen instances of possible voter fraud. The former FBI head said law enforcement officials with subpeona power could find even greater numbers.
“The numbers you came up in your reporting is significant,” Gallagher said. “To utilize law enforcement tools to further develop those numbers, it could lead to a greater problem.”
After the I-Team began looking into this issue months ago, more than a dozen town workers workers who voted regularly in past elections did not vote in this may’s mayoral election. And after our inquiries, more than half a dozen workers have changed their voting addresses in North Bergen to an out of town address already listed in other public records.

Whistleblower's Lawyer Says Trump Endangering His Client
The attorney for the intelligence community whistleblower whose complaint fueled a House inquiry into impeaching President Donald Trump says he has "serious concerns" that Trump's comments had put his client in danger, NBC News reported.
The unidentified whistleblower's legal team sounded the alarm in a letter, dated Saturday and made public on Sunday, to Joseph Maguire, the acting director of national intelligence.
The letter, which was signed by Andrew P. Bakaj, the whistleblower's lead attorney, pointed to Trump's call last week for "the person who gave the whistleblower the information" to be publicly identified.
It said the president's remarks were among the events that "have heightened our concerns that our client's identity will be disclosed publicly and that, as a result, our client will be put in harm's way."

Tests Show Bootleg Marijuana Vapes Tainted With Hydrogen Cyanide
The soaring popularity of vaping products — both legal and knock-offs — is fueling a public health crisis that has vexed the medical community, NBC News reports.
Some 12 people have died from mysterious lung illnesses linked to vape pens, and 805 others have been hospitalized in 46 states, according to federal health officials.
Seeking answers, NBC News commissioned one of the nation's leading cannabis testing facilities to test a sampling of THC cartridges — 18 in all — obtained from legal dispensaries and unlicensed dealers.
Of the three purchased from legal dispensaries in California, the CannaSafe testing company found no heavy metals, pesticides or residual solvents like Vitamin E.
But 13 out of the other 15 samples from black market THC cartridges were found to contain Vitamin E. CannaSafe also tested 10 of the unregulated cartridges for pesticides. All 10 tested positive.
The products all contained myclobutanil, a fungicide that can transform into hydrogen cyanide when burned.

Soldier Stationed at Trump's Mar-a-Lago Pleads Guilty to Lying in Child Porn Investigation
A staff sergeant who led the U.S. Army's communications detail at President Donald Trump's club in Florida, Mar-a-Lago, admitted to lying to federal officers during a child pornography investigation, NBC News reports.
Richard Ciccarella, 34, was alleged to have posted photographs of a young relative with the caption "dirty comment's [sic] welcome" on a Russian message board between November 2017 and February 2018, according to court documents.
The posts allegedly made by Ciccarella were linked to a Yahoo email address, which the soldier denied belonged to him when federal agents from the Department of Homeland Security first questioned him at President Trump's club in Palm Beach in March 2018.
Ciccarella, who received numerous commendations for his military service and deployed to Iraq twice, was in charge of all White House communications for the U.S. Army at Mar-a-Lago as a telecommunications operations chief from August 2017 to March 2018. He enlisted in the military at 19.
In a federal court ruling filed late on Friday, Ciccarella pleaded guilty to one count of making a false statement to a federal officer about whether the email address belonged to him.

Mosquitoes Carrying Deadly EEE Virus Found in 2 NY Counties
Two counties in New York have found mosquitoes that tested positive for carrying the potentially deadly EEE virus.
Officials in Rockland County and Long Island’s Suffolk County both confirmed to have samples infected with Eastern Equine Encephalitis — the illness that has killed 10 people nationwide this year.
Rockland County Executive Ed Day and County Health Commissioner Dr. Patricia Schnabel Ruppert said the mosquitoes carrying the disease were collected from a trap in Orangetown on September 17 as a part of the county’s surveillance efforts. These are the first insects found to be carrying the illness in the county.
"The Rockland County Health Department's mosquito control program will continue to monitor known mosquito breeding sites, including sites near where these infected mosquitoes were found,” Dr. Ruppert said.
The biting bugs found with EEE in Suffolk County were discovered in the Manorville area on September 18. An additional mosquito also tested positive for West Nile Virus in that sample as well.
This marks the seventh case of EEE to be found in Suffolk County, and 74th to be carrying West Nile.
“We don’t want people to be alarmed but rather informed,” said health commissioner Dr. James Tomarken. “We will be treating the Manorville area for mosquitoes this weekend, and we encourage residents to take precautions to avoid being bitten by mosquitoes.”
No human cases have been reported in either Rockland County or Suffolk County. Two people in Suffolk County have been infected with West Nile virus this year.
Earlier this month, mutliple people in New Jersey were confirmed to be infected with the mosquito-borne illness that has been spreading across the region.
The most recent New Jersey cases of Eastern Equine Encephalitis, which people under the age of 15 or over 50 are particularly susceptible to, were found in Atlantic and Union counties. The first human case in the state was discovered in Somerset County in August.
Union County officials discovered a mosquito carrying EEE inside traps set up for West Nile Virus.
Those who have the virus may never actually get sick, but for others it can lead to flu-like symptoms including strong headaches, sudden high fever, joint and muscle pain, confusion, vomiting and chills that come about three to 15 days after the infected mosquito bites. In very rare severe cases, it can cause an inflammation of the brain — and a third of people who have contracted EEE have died, according to the Center for Disease Control.
Those in the affected areas who have been bitten and are experiencing the symptoms are encouraged to contact their healthcare provider as soon as possible.
In total, ten people have died around the country and dozens more have been infected. The latest reported death was in Massachusetts.

Teed Off Golfers Take Aim at Politicians at NJ Driving Range
Looking for a way to vent your anger over the current state of American politics? Maybe it’s time to break out the 9-iron and hit some politicians and pundits — with golf balls that is.
A driving range in New Jersey is allowing golfers to take their best cuts at nailing posters of Donald Trump, Joe Biden and many more along the fairway as a way of dealing with the stress that comes the political saga currently going on.
Cape May Par 3 Golf and Driving Range in Middle Township came up with the idea to put the political figures out on yardage markers back in the spring as a fun way to drive up business.
Other current “targets” include Bernie Sanders, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Sean Hannity and Kellyanne Conway. Posters of Mitch McConnell, Elizabeth Warren, Chuck Schumer and Rachel Maddow are also waiting in the wings for their time to be target practice.
Owner Rick Jones put the pictures of the politicos on their respective sides — Democrats on the left, Republicans on the right — and the vast majority of the responses he’s gotten have been positive, with a few anonymous complaints claiming he is inciting violence.
Although it is not known which side has more balls hit toward it, Jones and others at the facility said it’s a simple and fun way to practice your swing while keeping up with “what’s going on with the news at the time.”

Why You Soon Won't Be Able to Drive on One Busy NYC Street
Unless you drive a city bus or a truck, don’t expect to be driving along 14th Street in the near future.
The city says starting October 3, a busway will be implemented between Third and Ninth Avenues for the street which serves as a major artery for traffic below Midtown. Once the busway rules have been put in place, only MTA buses, trucks and cars making pick-ups or drop-offs will be allowed to travel there. Once the cars have done that, they will be required to make the next possible turn off of 14th Street.
The rule will be in effect seven days a week, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
An appellate court ruling paved the way for the busway, which should come to the relief of many who ride buses using that road. One in particular, the M14, was clocked as the slowest in the city — averaging just 4.3 mph, according to data by New York Public Interest Research Group and TransitCenter. That’s even slower than a manatee.
However, not all are cheering the move. Those who live in the neighborhoods on surrounding streets say all the ruling does is move the traffic onto their smaller street of the Village.
“It’s a nice place to live, a nice place to raise kids, and now all were going [to] do is get more cars,” said attorney Arthur Schwartz, who lives in the area and has been spearheading the fight against the busway. “All the DOT is doing is pushing cars from 14th street to other streets in name of moving busses.”
Mayor Bill de Blasio tweeted on Friday night in support of the decision, which didn’t surprise Schwartz.
“Bill has disappointed everyone who lives in the neighborhood and I’m not sure what the point of it is,” he said, adding that he plans on continuing his fight in front of a five-panel judge in January.

4 More Arrests Made in Connection to Deadly LI Teen Stabbing
Police on Long Island have made at least four more arrests in connection to the fatal stabbing of a teen outside of a strip mall, law enforcement sources tell NBC New York.
Several of those arrested Friday are also teenagers, sources said, though it is unclear what role they may have played in the brawl that led to the deadly stabbing of 16-year-old Khaseen Morris in Oceanside on September 16.
Investigators were in the Long Beach area, believed to be searching for suspects. The law enforcement source said that there could be as many seven people arrested by the end of the day.
Those arrested are expected to be arraigned on Saturday. Last week, an 18-year-old was arrested and charged with murder for his role in Morris' death. Tyler Flach was remanded and granted protective custody by the judge, after Flach's lawyer Edward Sapone said Bloods gang members connected to the victim have been threatening him.
Police believe the fight was a pre-arrangement meeting that was over a girl the victim was said to have walked home from a party. Officials may be looking for as many as seven more people who may have been involved, police said.
Cops were called to Mario’s Pizzeria and Restaurant in Nassau County after reports of a large fight; authorities say up to 70 teenagers had shown up. When cops arrived, they found Morris with a knife wound to his chest, and another 17-year-old with a broken arm and swelling to his head, according to Nassau Police.
Authorities say Morris, who was seen with the girl in cellphone video of the fight, did not have a weapon on him.

Giuliani's Former DOJ Colleagues Believe He Committed Crimes
On a Friday in late July, Rudy Giuliani boarded a plane to Spain to meet with an adviser to the Ukrainian president about a plan to investigate Joe Biden, NBC News reported.
The trip was described in a whistleblower’s complaint. Several former Giuliani colleagues said they believe it should appear in a future indictment.
Giuliani’s role in the scandal that has triggered an impeachment inquiry is still coming into focus. But several legal experts who used to work with the former U.S. attorney-turned New York City mayor-turned chief President Donald Trump defender told NBC News they believe his conduct likely broke the law.
"This is certainly not the Giuliani that I know," said Jeffrey Harris, who worked as Giuliani’s top assistant when he was at the Justice Department in the President Ronald Reagan administration. "I think the Giuliani that I know would prosecute the Giuliani of today."
