Pair of Garbagemen Beaten, Bruised by Trio in BK, Cops Say

Two on-duty sanitation workers ended up battered and bruised after they were attacked by three men overcome by road rage, police say.

The workers, ages 53 and 39, were making their usual rounds along Highland Place near Ridgewood Avenue in Cypress Hills when a white van came to a halt near their truck around 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, police said.

That's when the brazen trio hopped out of the van to confront the Department of Sanitation employees.

"Why the f--k did you cut me off?" yelled one of the men as the trio began to beat the garbagemen. The suspects then jumped back into the van and took off, authorities said.

The 53-year-old suffered cuts to his face and ear, while the 39-year-old was left with a split lip and a cut above his right eye, cops said. At least one of the suspect was armed with brass knucks, according to police.

Paramedics rushed the garbagemen to Jamaica Hospital Medical Center, where they were treated and released.

Department of Sanitation Commissioner Kathryn Garcia visited the victims in the hospital Wednesday night. She said she was "outraged" at the brutal attack.

"I am outraged that two dedicated Sanitation Workers who were only trying to make our city safe and clean were brutally attacked by several assailants who then fled the scene," she said in a statement. "I know that NYPD is actively pursuing the attackers and will prosecute them to the fullest extent of the law, which could result in felony charges."

No arrests have been made.
