A woman who appeared to be "emotionally disturbed" was shot and injured by cops in Queens Village a police official said.
Lydia Spicer, 49, of Queens, was acting erratically outside a car wash near Jamaica Avenue and 212th Street around 10:30 p.m. Friday, the NYPD said. When officers approached her, she threw a bottle at them and lunged at them with a knife, according to police.
Officers then fired at her, hitting her in the midsection, a police official said. A knife was recovered at the scene.
No officers were injured.
Spicer was taken to North Shore Hospital in stable condition and was expected to survive.
She was charged with menacing a police officer and criminal possession of a weapon, police said.
Citizen video showed a wide police cordon on the street, which appeared to be blocked off up to two blocks, as well as a large police presence.
The woman's husband, Joe Ladson, disputed the NYPD's account of the incident, saying he couldn't believe his wife had been violent.
"My wife would not go at no police, I know this," Ladson said.
An investigation is ongoing.
