A woman taking money out at a bank in Manhattan on Monday was scared by a man who threatened her with what he said was acid inside a bottle, cops say.
The robber demanded $1,000 from the woman or he said he was going to splash her with acid, according to police.
The man, who waved a bottle with some sort of liquid in it, followed the woman into Citibank on First Avenue and East 68th Street just before 4 p.m., authorities said.
The victim, who was terrified, withdrew $500 and gave it to the robber, and then he ran away, officials said.
Police are looking into whether the robbery is linked to another similar one at the same bank back on May 12.
It was then when a man followed another woman into the ATM vestibule and threatened her by saying he’d throw acid in her face if she didn’t hand over the cash, authorities said.
The robber got away with $1,000, police said.
Authorities are not saying the same person is behind both robberies, however, both victims gave investigators similar suspect descriptions.
